In true military form – no plan survives the first contact of battle…. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a number of changes that i was forced to perform, mostly from design flaws where I had to ‘guestimate’ dimensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once I started building, some glaring issues were staring me in the face, others were more subtle or slightly hidden….<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will list these changes as I discover\/address them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

initially cut too much of the height of the frame & had to put legs back on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

reduce the height & depth of the pilot dash<\/p>\n\n\n\n

too big with the CMWS as well<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

shortened it up by 50mm (2″)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

add a pedal shelf to the PLT station, behind the CPG seat & create a nose cone to incorporate a CPG pedal shelf<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pit (without proper doors, is a bit difficult to get in & out of…. so i decided to the turn canopy in to hinged pop-tops<\/p>\n\n\n\n

welded a catch plate on the mid frame<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

These welds were all done borrowing my neighbours little MiG welder & I was without gas, so it was a bit ugly…. don’t judge me guys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also had to move rear cross bar on aft section to middle of section & reduce the bench depth<\/p>\n\n\n\n

relocated the rear cross bar to allow more G-seat room<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

primer over the new welds<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

refit a much narrower stream PC shelf<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

changing the hinged pivot location of the CPG canopy, relocated due to lack of travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

previous pivot point with sod all travel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

removing the CPG canopy to cut away the old welds<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

relocating the hinges on the CPG canopy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

strengthened the frame at old pivot point<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
more reinforcement of old pivot point<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
cleaning up the (awlful) gasless MiG welds <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
welded the frame where it was previously hinged<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
CPG canopy now moves much further out of the way <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
much better-er<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
rebuilt with gas struts relocated<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

this took a fair bit of work, cutting elements previously welded, cleaning up the frame, then relocating hinges & rewelding the frame for strength<\/p>\n\n\n\n

replaced the PLT gas struts with larger units (smaller one couldnt hold the weight of the canopy frame<\/p>\n\n\n\n

had to replace the 90 degree brackets holding the gas struts, as they were all splitting when i did them up or after the struts had operated a few times…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
